Fashion: the JRP Way

Last December 2011, I was one of the first 100 who liked John Robert Powers Manila’s Facebook page. As a prize, we were awarded with a short course of our choice. Looking at my fail-fashionista of existence, I didn’t think twice about choosing the wardrobe course. And I’m glad I did.

We discussed a lot from our body shapes to choosing pieces that flatter our different body sizes. Underscored with a well-delivered instruction not to mention a very entertaining time, I really enjoyed this short course. And if I still failed in fashion at the end of this year of trial, I’ll definitely enroll myself.

While we only covered the basics, I feel that I learned so much. It’s just a matter of how you understand it. And hopefully inculcate it with your own style.

This shirt can go from formal to casual with a simple unfastening of a few buttons and rolling up sleeves, and still remain fresh and neat looking.

This dress is so versatile it even has its own acronym, the LBD. It’s a definite must-have for every wardrobe. Its simplicity and elegance can render you sexy or chic depending on your accessories. Go for this neckline and a pencil cut to accentuate you curves without making you look raunchy.

For lazy days and casual meetings, go for denim that fits you in the right places. Avoid jeans that crease when you sit down or give you muffin-tops.

This classic pair can take you from your office to nights out. Splurge on a comfy pair that will last you the whole day/night long. Just make sure to stay away from the pointed shoe+patent+stiletto combo if you don’t want to attract the R-18 kind of attention from men.

Best on a shopping spree! Spare your legs from the pain of heels and go all out comfy with this pair.

For your job interviews and any kind of meetings where you need to be super formal without looking like a secretary/coffee-maker. Unlike black, the color gray can take you from day to night and formal to casual. Pair this with a bright colored top to avoid the boring office-lady look.

Get in touch with your feminine and classy side without spending a lot on diamonds. No need for designer jewels. A regular string of pearls works wonders.

VPL is fashion faux pas! Wear black under black clothes, nude/white under whites! Flash photography is cruel when it comes to your intimates showing through your clothes.

Small and soft, this can be easily packed in your handbag or tie it around the handle for a casual look. At any time you feel cold or needing more neck-cessories, just wrap it around, keep calm, and carry on.

You still need this even if you’re in the Philippines. Wear it to Baguio or Tagaytay. Go abroad. Just wear it.

A blazer can take any outfit up a notch. Need I say more? Make sure the length goes below your navel. Pair this with your innerwear tucked out and looming past the length of your blazer if you’re tall. Otherwise, stick to the tucked-in version to keep you from looking chopped and short.

And there’s your 11 wardrobe must-haves. What do you think? Is there something that we missed?
