DIY: 3.1 Phillip Lim-inspired transparent collars

I’ve been browsing Style.com recently for DIY ideas and this caught my eye. I just bought 2 sheets of perspex a few days ago and I’ve been tapping my creative side since.

3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2012 RTW - Transparent Collar (Source: Style.com)

Looking at the photo, I believe the material is frosted plastic about 1-1.5mm thick with its flexibility reminiscent of those plastics used for covering books - only thicker.

With my on-hand material, I decided to make a different shape, which apparently looks more complicated than that in the photo above. Remember that my perspex sheets are 2mm thick. Here’s the result:

The collar resulted to a two-piece item which can be worn by stringing both with a pretty ribbon like below:

Or by letting it sit loose on your decolletage. To keep it in place, I suggest drilling a hole on both ends and looping a small chain (the ones used in making accessories) to add a futuristic touch.

I don’t think it’s perfect yet. Later, I’ll head out to get some 1mm black frosted ones and maybe some neon colored sheets too. Expect that my next post on acrylic collars will include step-by-step photos… :)
